Our journey so far
In 2018, we took a leap forward when we developed the world’s first biodegradable floral foam, OASIS® Bio Floral Foam Maxlife.
Since then, our R&D teams have continued to work on developing the most sustainable solutions possible for florists.
We have some exciting new product developments and sustainability initiatives coming soon - so watch this space!
Our products
We know florists want to do their bit for the environment by creating more sustainable designs. To make it easy for you to find our more eco-friendly products (there are over 300 to date!) we’ve put them all together in our Sustainability Range.
All the products in our Sustainability Range have disposal instructions provided in the product descriptions on the website, so you can advise your customers what to do after they have enjoyed their arrangement.
Definitions
With different terminology flying around, it can be tricky to know what you’re looking for! Here are some quick definitions to help you decide what kind of products you want to use:
Recyclable – A material that can be recycled can be re-engineered into something new, instead of going to landfill. Some materials are easier to recycle than others, and in the UK, the recycling facilities available depends on where you live – you can check your area here: Recycling Locator
Compostable – Similar to biodegradable but going one step further, compostable materials provide nutrients to soil once they have broken down. Products that are certified compostable are generally not suitable for home composting unless specifically stated – they must be disposed of at industrial composting sites.
Biodegradable – A material that can be broken down by microorganisms into organic matter. How long something takes to break down can depend on the material itself and conditions such as temperature and humidity. Even a banana skin, for example, can take up to two years to biodegrade!
